3rd draft

I have now at this stage composed the interview questions and placed them on the page leaving space for the answers. By doing this I can now see a greater structure to the page and can see how the finished piece will look in my mind. I have also written an opening paragraph about Route-A and an introduction to the interview. The tone of the writing is informal, this is done because it makes easy reading which is what is necessary for such a magazine and its audience. The informality makes it more enjoyable and allows the reader to step out of the serious way of life and instead they can just enjoy an easy read about a topic they are interested in. Before creating my questions I researched interviews in magazines, particularly music related ones. I found this research allowed me to understand the tone in which the interviews are written in, this made it a lot easier to produce the questions. When researching interviews I found that the questions are fairly generic and about nothing particularly interesting and they are designed mainly for the person in question to show off their personality and to publicise themselves, when creating my questions I considered this and tried to incorporate this idea.
In some cases even though I have not yet written answers some questions follow up answers that do not exist, I have been able to do this because I already have an idea of what I will put as the answers and I have written up brief answers already, by doing this I have been able to form an interview that is of a conversation style again increasing the informality.

2nd draft

Since the first draft I have selected two pictures that I want for the contents page. The main image positioned in the center of the page shows the featuring artist Route-A, it is rather simplistic focusing primarily on the artist, I like the actual picture of him however I am not particularly fond of the background of the image, this is because it has no relevance and it does not suit the topic in hand.
The second image in the top right of the page is again of the artist but is a mid shot and has a different background. I like this image how it is however I feel it might need a border around it.
The overall layout so far is how I want it to be and it is similar to my plan.

1st draft

First of all I added the two corner parts of the page in the top left and bottom right of the page, these are of the same style to the half circle faded shapes that I have used in the corners. I tried using the half circle shape but it did not suit the page, due to this I played around on paint and eventually I decided upon using a triangular shape, I used the same method of construction as before using paint. By doing this I have made sure that the double page spread keeps the magazines style and along with it its identity.
I have also made a masthead for the page which informs the reader what the topic is about. I chose to use the use colour yellow on top of the black background so that it stands out.
I have also chosen a sub heading that informs the reader further about the topic, again the use of yellow is used for the same purpose as the masthead.
I have also included the page number in the bottom right of the page to inform readers of the page number

Now that I have looked into double page spreads I feel that I am ready to make my plan. Bellow is the basic structure of what I intend to create.

PLAN

The idea of this plan is not based on any particular magazine but instead I have incorporated the raw parts that are in almost every double page spread and along with this I plan to add the house style.

As part of my research I have looked at different double page spreads to gain am understanding of their layout. Bellow are a few of the magazines I looked at:

Double page spread

Now that I have completed my contents page I will now create my double page spread. First of all I will do some research on them before I make it.

Final Contents Page

This piece has bee slightly modified since the last draft, in the previous draft I noticed that I had used the same page number twice by accident, I have now amended this. I have also added a page number for the contents page in the top left of the page.
Before posting this I used a focus group to give me some feed back about the page to make sure it was good enough, their replies were all positive which added to me being happy to say I have finished my contents page.

Before using any photos I asked other media students whether they were good enough to make sure that they met the standard that I wanted and of what is required.

6th draft of contents page

The differences in this draft and the previous one are first of all an image of some headphones which I feel fit in well with the page and the coverline alongside them. The other new edition to the page is the grouping of pictures on the top of the page, I did this because my target audience as mentioned earlier are more likely to be attracted by images rather than text, due to this I have used images instead of coverline's. This grouping of pictures can be seen by the reader and from looking at them they would recognise a person in one of the pictures or see one that creates an interest so that they will look out for a related article in the magazine.

This image is of an artist for my magazine, its purpose is just to show the audience that this artist is in the magazine. When taking this picture I used a light coloured wall in the background, to make editing easier, whoever I decided upon not removing the background of this image.

Final edit. Image reffered to previously

Final edit. Image reffered to previously

Original picture: This image is of a person jumping over a wall which relates to an urban sport called parkour. The readers of this type of magazine are likely to know of this sport and if they show an interest in this area the picture will inform them that the topic will be mentioned inside the magazine
Final edit: With this image I used Adobe Photoshop; I first of all varied the contrast and brightness of the image, after this I used the quick selection tool on the character jumping the wall and layered it so that it was separate to the rest of the picture, from this I used an effect on the person to make them a lot darker. Finally I used a spotlight effect on the center right of the building, with the spotlight I varied its colouring from the standard white light to an orange/yellow light, this use of colour ties in with the yellow in the colour scheme of my magazine which helps the picture fit into the page.

This image was taken by myself at a gig, and I feel that it will fit in well with the contents page. The colours in the image tie in with the colour scheme of my magazine with the black and yellow in the picture. I felt that the image did not need any effects and I only had to crop it to make it fit to the page how I wanted it to.

This image is of an artist for my magazine, its purpose is just to show the audience that this artist is in the magazine. When taking this picture I used the schools green screen, this was to make the whole editing process much quicker.
When editing this picture I used Adobe Photoshop, I first of all used the quick selection tool to remove the green background. I felt that the image did not require a background like most of my images because their purpose is to inform the viewer of the subject they are related to by removing the background it is much easier for them to do so.

1st edit: Unfortunately I didn't save the original image in the editing process. This image is of a pair of headphones, I edited this on Adobe Photoshop and used the auto selection tool to remove the background.

Final edit: after the first stage I placed the image onto the page and used the set colour transparent tool to make the white background disappear and become black, when doing this the outline of the headphone remained white, after looking at this I decided to leave this because it left a glimmer effect around the image making it stand out.

5th draft of contents page

The design is relatively similar to the last draft however there is now flexibility to use the top of the page. I have kept all of the items except for the "sound regulars list" which I cannot see as an issue because if I were to make a full magazine I would do as other magazines do and have a regulars page and then the main stories page.

Chang of plan

After looking at my recent draft I have decided to go back to my first draft. i feel that there is more potential with what I had planned compared to where I feel the latest draft will take me.

4th draft of contents page

Original photo: The overall aim was to get a picture of an artist performing. I feel that I captured this image well with the model. The background does not matter because I already intended to remove all of the background of the image and focus entirely on the artist.

1st edit: As mentioned above about removing the background I have done so.

Final edit: Like with the council block photo in the previous draft it lacked a certain aspect and look fairly washed out, I feel the photo did as well, so in this edit I have played with the contrast and made the image darker and then I added a spotlight effect on the head of the artist, which brings him forward, the overall effect has given an image that could be of a person performing on a stage.
